What you can access
Your dashboard can show your time entries and productivity data when access is enabled. Viewing and deleting screenshots require separate permissions. If you do not have dashboard access and need to review your activity, you can ask your manager to share the relevant records.
Idle thresholds, productivity labels, and Always Active rules are managed in company settings. If something in your activity record looks wrong, you can ask your manager to help review it.
Why Insightful can show idle while you are working
Reading or a meeting can show as idle because there is little keyboard activity, clicking, or scrolling. Those are the inputs Insightful counts; moving the pointer alone does not reset the idle timer.
If you are typing but still appear idle, check that the app is connected, recent activity has synced, and the required input permissions are enabled. If the problem continues, note the time and app you were using so support can investigate.
For recurring idle time during calls, ask whether an Always Active rule is configured for your meeting app. That company setting changes how idle time is counted, without adding keyboard or mouse activity.
Does Insightful record audio?
Insightful says screen recording does not record microphone or system audio. Its documentation also describes playing audio supplied by an external integration, such as a call recording, alongside screen activity.
If audio is attached to your session, it may come from a connected call-recording service. Ask which service supplied it if that is not shown in the report.
How Insightful monitoring works
Insightful can track your work through manual, project-based, or automatic sessions. The record may include work hours, idle periods, apps, websites, productivity labels, and screenshots. What is collected and what you can see depend on company settings.
The default idle threshold documented in May 2026 is two minutes, with administrator options ranging from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. The guide states that keyboard activity, mouse clicks, and scrolling count; mouse movement by itself does not.
Insightful tracks the foreground application or website rather than every background window. It can attach screenshots to that activity, label it productive or unproductive by team, and provide minute-level logs in eligible plans or add-ons.
What Insightful can record
Idle thresholds
Administrators can configure how soon inactivity becomes idle. The current default is two minutes, and the resulting idle period is measured from the last recorded activity.
Input that counts
Insightful's current help documentation says keyboard input, mouse clicks, and scrolling count toward activity, while mouse movement alone does not.
Foreground apps and websites
The active application, site, page or window context can be recorded and analyzed; background applications are not treated as the active work item.
Randomized screenshots
Administrators choose a frequency or disable captures. Screenshots occur at randomized intervals and can include multiple displays.
Productivity and timelines
Labels, activity timelines, real-time status, and logs show how active, idle, break, productive, neutral, and unproductive periods fit together.
Screen recording
Optional screen recording can capture all monitored activity or only task-based work, including multiple displays. It can continue through idle time, pauses for configured breaks, and does not record microphone or system audio.
Real-time status and trends
Real-time views can show active, productive, unproductive, idle, break, absent, clocked-out, or time-off states plus the currently focused app or site. Trend views compare daily averages or total time.
Engagement Level
When enabled, Engagement is the active seconds with mouse or keyboard usage divided by all seconds in an active block. Break, manual, and idle time are excluded; reports can split the percentage into mouse and keyboard usage.
Irregular behavior alerts
After a shift ends, Insightful can flag repetitive automated keystrokes, repetitive clicks, and known activity-simulation applications. Admins and managers can review flagged cases in the alert logs.
Settings and controls that change the record
The product name alone does not tell you exactly what is being collected. Plan, administrator or client settings, app version, device, and employee permissions can all change what appears.
Visible and Stealth installations behave differently
On personal computers, Visible mode gives you clock-in controls and a link to your dashboard when access is enabled. Company computers can use Stealth mode, which starts automatically without a visible app.
Tracking profiles define when collection runs
Your tracking profile determines when collection runs: on a fixed schedule, on approved networks or VPNs, after you clock in, or while you track a project or task. Profiles can also combine these rules or allow unlimited tracking without a schedule.
Idle settings define which inputs count
The documented default is two minutes, with options of 30 seconds, 1, 2, 3, 5, or 10 minutes. Idle is backdated to the last qualifying keyboard input, click, or scroll; mouse movement alone does not reset it.
Apps can be marked Always Active
An Always Active rule can keep a meeting or other selected app from counting as idle. The rule is managed in company settings. It does not add mouse or keyboard input or raise Engagement Level.
Engagement Level begins turned off
An administrator must enable Show Engagement level in Advanced Tracking Settings. The resulting daily and active-block percentages measure input only inside periods Insightful already considers active.
Screenshot visibility and deletion are configurable
Whether you can view or delete screenshots depends on your account permissions. Capture frequency, monitored displays, and exclusions for particular apps, websites, projects, or times determine what appears.
Capture depth depends on optional features
Higher-frequency and on-demand screenshots, minute-level logs, and full screen recording can depend on the plan or add-on. Screen recording and randomized screenshots are separate features with different controls.
Can a mouse jiggler bypass Insightful or Workpuls?
Under Insightful’s standard idle rules, moving the cursor alone does not count as activity. A jiggler that only moves the pointer will leave you marked idle once the configured idle threshold is reached.
Irregular Behavior is a separate check for automated input and known simulation apps. Having active time does not by itself mean the alert logs are clear.
Lumous combines clicks, scrolling, and keyboard activity with app and browser-tab switching to vary both the input and the content on screen. Our October 2026 test recorded 5 hours and 25 minutes of work time, about 74% utilization, and zero irregular behavior alerts. We reviewed the results from the admin account and confirmed that the alert rule was active.
What simple mouse jigglers miss
- Mouse movement alone is not listed as qualifying activity in Insightful's current idle-time documentation.
- The foreground application or website may remain static and visible in logs or screenshots.
- Productivity labels and team-specific rules can make apparently active time unproductive in context.
- Screenshots, multi-monitor captures, and minute-level logs add evidence a cursor-only tool cannot control.
How Lumous approaches the wider desktop record
- Lumous can produce clicks, scrolling, and keyboard activity in addition to mouse movement, addressing a broader set of input signals.
- Safe Click Zones restrict clicking to approved parts of the prepared screen, reducing the risk of uncontrolled interaction.
- Basic Mode controls the overall activity level; Advanced Mode separately tunes mouse, keyboard, click, scroll, tab, and application frequency for quieter or more active workflows.
- Lumous switches between your open apps and browser tabs so the same window or page does not stay on screen throughout the session.
