How Insightful monitoring works
Insightful supports manual, project-based, and automatic tracking scenarios. When the relevant tracking mode is active, administrators can review work hours, idle periods, applications, websites, productivity data, and screenshots according to organization settings.
The default idle threshold documented in May 2026 is two minutes, with administrator options ranging from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. The guide states that keyboard activity, mouse clicks, and scrolling count; mouse movement by itself does not.
Insightful tracks the foreground application or website rather than every background window. It can attach screenshots to that activity, label it productive or unproductive by team, and provide minute-level logs in eligible plans or add-ons.
What Insightful can record
Idle thresholds
Administrators can configure how soon inactivity becomes idle. The current default is two minutes, and the resulting idle period is measured from the last recorded activity.
Input that counts
Insightful's current help documentation says keyboard input, mouse clicks, and scrolling count toward activity, while mouse movement alone does not.
Foreground apps and websites
The active application, site, page or window context can be recorded and analyzed; background applications are not treated as the active work item.
Randomized screenshots
Administrators choose a frequency or disable captures. Screenshots occur at randomized intervals and can include multiple displays.
Productivity and timelines
Labels, activity timelines, real-time status, and logs show how active, idle, break, productive, neutral, and unproductive periods fit together.
Screen recording
Optional screen recording can capture all monitored activity or only task-based work, including multiple displays. It can continue through idle time, pauses for configured breaks, and does not record microphone or system audio.
Real-time status and trends
Real-time views can show active, productive, unproductive, idle, break, absent, clocked-out, or time-off states plus the currently focused app or site. Trend views compare daily averages or total time.
Engagement Level
When enabled, Engagement is the active seconds with mouse or keyboard usage divided by all seconds in an active block. Break, manual, and idle time are excluded; reports can split the percentage into mouse and keyboard usage.
Settings and controls that change the record
The product name alone does not tell you exactly what is being collected. Plan, administrator or client settings, app version, device, and employee permissions can all change what appears.
Visible and Stealth installations behave differently
Insightful uses Visible mode on personal computers, where employees can clock in and access their dashboard. Company computers can use Stealth mode, which starts automatically without an employee-facing interface.
Tracking profiles define when collection runs
Profiles can allow unlimited tracking, fixed schedules, approved networks or VPNs, manual clock-in, project/task tracking, or combinations of those rules. The assigned profile determines the employee's actual experience.
Idle settings define which inputs count
The documented default is two minutes, with options of 30 seconds, 1, 2, 3, 5, or 10 minutes. Idle is backdated to the last qualifying keyboard input, click, or scroll; mouse movement alone does not reset it.
Apps can be marked Always Active
An administrator can exempt selected applications—such as VoIP or meeting tools—from ordinary idle treatment. Always Active prevents idle status but does not add mouse or keyboard use or raise Engagement Level.
Engagement Level begins turned off
An administrator must enable Show Engagement level in Advanced Tracking Settings. The resulting daily and active-block percentages measure input only inside periods Insightful already considers active.
Screenshot visibility and deletion are configurable
Screenshot frequency can vary by profile or employee, and administrators decide whether employees can view or delete captures. Multiple monitors and app, site, team, employee, project, or time-based exclusions can change what appears.
Capture depth depends on optional features
Higher-frequency and on-demand screenshots, minute-level logs, and full screen recording can depend on the plan or add-on. Screen recording and randomized screenshots are separate features with different controls.
Can a mouse jiggler bypass Insightful or Workpuls?
According to Insightful's current idle-time guide, moving the cursor without clicking or scrolling does not count as activity. A traditional jiggler that only shifts pointer position may therefore fail at the most basic idle-state goal.
Lumous generates the clicks, scrolling, and keyboard activity that Insightful counts, while also changing foreground applications and browser tabs so the wider activity record remains natural.
This varied, multi-signal approach bypasses Insightful's idle detection and keeps Lumous undetectable to Insightful and Workpuls.
What simple mouse jigglers miss
- Mouse movement alone is not listed as qualifying activity in Insightful's current idle-time documentation.
- The foreground application or website may remain static and visible in logs or screenshots.
- Productivity labels and team-specific rules can make apparently active time unproductive in context.
- Screenshots, multi-monitor captures, and minute-level logs add evidence a cursor-only tool cannot control.
How Lumous approaches the wider desktop record
- Lumous can produce clicks, scrolling, and keyboard activity in addition to mouse movement, addressing a broader set of input signals.
- Safe Click Zones restrict clicking to approved parts of the prepared screen, reducing the risk of uncontrolled interaction.
- Basic Mode controls the overall activity level; Advanced Mode separately tunes mouse, keyboard, click, scroll, tab, and application frequency for quieter or more active workflows.
- Browser tab and open-application switching change foreground context instead of leaving one active item frozen.
- Lumous installs and runs under the ordinary Reminders name, icon, window title, and process. It stays minimized and outside application rotation so Insightful's foreground record shows the prepared workspace rather than a Lumous interface.
- Together, these features keep Lumous undetectable to Insightful and Workpuls.
