How to Set Up Lumous on macOS

A quick note: To keep things discreet, the application and installer both appear as "Reminders" on your system — in the dock, window titles, and anywhere else it might be visible. This guide refers to it as Lumous, but don't be surprised when you see "Reminders" on your Mac!

Getting started with Lumous on macOS is quick and straightforward. This guide will walk you through everything — from purchasing your license key to configuring the app to suit your workflow.

Step 1: Purchase a License Key

Before downloading, you'll need a license key. If you haven't done so already, you can purchase one or start a risk-free trial here.

Step 2: Download the App

Head over to the Downloads page and grab the correct version for your Mac:

  • Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4, etc.)
  • Intel

Not sure which one you have? Click the Apple menu () in the top-left corner of your screen, then About This Mac. If it says "Apple M1" (or M2, M3, etc.) under Chip, download the Apple Silicon version. If it says "Processor" with an Intel name, download the Intel version.

Step 3: Activate Your License

Once you've downloaded and opened Reminders, you'll be greeted with a license activation screen. Paste your license key into the input field and click Activate. The app will verify your key and take you to the main screen.

Step 4: Grant macOS Permissions

Since Reminders simulates keyboard input and runs with keyboard shortcuts, macOS requires you to grant two permissions: Accessibility and Input Monitoring. A setup wizard will guide you through this automatically on first launch, but here's what to expect:

  • Open Accessibility Settings — The wizard provides a button that takes you directly to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
  • Add the App — If Reminders isn't already in the list, click the (+) button, find Reminders in your Applications folder, and add it.
  • Enable the Toggle — Make sure the toggle next to Reminders is switched ON.
  • Repeat for Input Monitoring — The wizard will then guide you to do the same for Input Monitoring settings.

Once both permissions are enabled, you're all set. If you ever need to revisit these steps, there's a Guide button on the main screen under the Permissions section.

Step 5: Configure & Use the App

Now you're on the main screen. Here's a quick overview of what Reminders can do:

Automation Features

  • Mouse Movement — Simulates natural, smooth cursor movement across your screen using realistic Bézier curves.
  • Mouse Clicks — Performs occasional left and right clicks.
  • Scrolling — Mimics natural scrolling behaviour, mostly downward (like reading content) with occasional upward scrolls.
  • Tab Switching — Switches between browser or application tabs.
  • App Switching — Switches between recently used applications.
  • Keyboard Activity — Simulates realistic typing at configurable speeds (WPM), complete with occasional typos and corrections for a natural feel.

Each feature can be toggled on or off individually.

Activity Settings

  • Basic Mode (default) — Use the single Activity Level slider to set all features to Low, Medium, or High intensity at once. Perfect if you want a simple, universal setting.
  • Advanced Mode — Toggle this on to reveal individual intensity sliders for each feature. This lets you fine-tune things like mouse activity level, click frequency, scroll intensity, tab switching frequency, app switching frequency, and typing WPM independently.

Keyboard Shortcuts

You can control Reminders even when it's minimized:

⌃ ⇧ UStart automation
⌃ ⇧ KStop automation
⌃ ⇧ 0Emergency stop (force quit)

Theme: Use the theme toggle button (☀/☾) in the top-right corner to switch between light and dark mode.
