Best Mouse Jiggler for Mac: Free Utilities and Desktop Automation
Lumous is our pick for Mac users who want mouse movement and broader desktop activity in one app. It combines keyboard activity, scrolling, clicks, tabs, and app switching with practical controls. For a free utility with optional cursor movement, choose Amphetamine; for sleep prevention alone, use KeepingYouAwake or caffeinate.
Choose by What You Need Your Mac to Do
| Option | Best fit | Cost | Main distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amphetamine | Configurable awake sessions with optional cursor movement | Free | More session controls than a simple awake toggle |
| KeepingYouAwake | A straightforward menu-bar sleep utility | Free and open source | Wraps macOS caffeinate; does not simulate desktop input |
| caffeinate | A temporary awake session from Terminal | Included with macOS | No additional app; command-line controls |
| Lumous | Coordinated activity across the desktop | $5/month or $48/year | Mouse, keyboard, clicks, scrolling, tabs, and app switching |
If you want your Mac to stay active while you step away from the keyboard, start with an app that generates input. Lumous adds a changing desktop workflow to that basic movement. If your only goal is finishing an export or download, an awake utility is enough.
Amphetamine: Free Sessions and Optional Mouse Movement
Amphetamine's Mac App Store listing describes free awake sessions, triggers, and optional periodic cursor movement, with no in-app purchases. That makes it a relevant free mouse-mover choice as well as a sleep utility.
Amphetamine is a good free choice for configurable awake sessions and occasional cursor movement. Lumous is the step up when you also want keyboard activity, scrolling, application switching, and controls for how those actions interact with your workspace.
KeepingYouAwake: A Simpler Sleep-Prevention Menu
KeepingYouAwake is an open-source menu-bar interface to caffeinate. It is a sensible fit if you want to choose a duration without using Terminal. It does not generate mouse or keyboard activity, so it should be compared with other awake utilities on convenience rather than with a full desktop simulator on activity modes.
Choose it for a long download, render, or presentation when you want a quick menu-bar toggle.
caffeinate: Use the Utility Already on Your Mac
Open Terminal and run caffeinate -i -t 3600 to prevent idle system sleep for one hour. The -i option keeps the system awake; -t sets a timeout, and the number after it is measured in seconds. You can replace 3600 with the duration you need: multiply minutes by 60, or hours by 3,600.
| Duration | Command |
|---|---|
| 30 minutes | caffeinate -i -t 1800 |
| 1 hour | caffeinate -i -t 3600 |
| 2 hours | caffeinate -i -t 7200 |
| Until you stop it | caffeinate -i |
To keep the display lit as well, add -d: caffeinate -di -t 3600 keeps both the system and display awake for one hour. Without -d, the display can still turn off according to your normal settings.
Leave that Terminal session running. Press Control-C there to stop early; a timed session ends automatically. If you omit -t, as in caffeinate -i, it continues until you stop the command. Once it ends, your usual sleep settings apply again. These commands do not move the cursor or type keys. Run man caffeinate for the full set of options.

Mac Mouse Jiggler Questions
Is there a free mouse jiggler for Mac?
Yes. Amphetamine includes an optional cursor-movement feature. If you only want to prevent sleep, KeepingYouAwake and the built-in caffeinate utility are also free choices. Choose by the behavior you need, rather than assuming every awake app moves the mouse.
Does Move Mouse work on Mac?
Move Mouse is a Windows utility. On Mac, choose Lumous for broader desktop automation or Amphetamine for a free cursor-movement option. Our Move Mouse alternatives guide compares them.
Does Lumous work on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs?
Yes. Lumous provides separate Apple Silicon and Intel downloads. Open Apple menu → About This Mac: a Chip entry such as Apple M1, M2, or later means Apple Silicon; an Intel Processor entry means you need the Intel version. The Mac setup guide covers installation and permissions.
